County Carlow

Browne's Hill Dolmen

This dolmen dating from 2000 BC, which has the largest capstone in Ireland ,can be found 3km (2 miles) east of Carlow in a field.  The capstone is embedded in the ground at one end, and is supported at the other end by three smaller stones.  It is estimated to weigh about 100 tonnes.  It is thought to mark the burial place of some chieftan.
